Maracas

Published by Andy

We decided to try out the boozy brunch at Maracas (at 33 Greenwich Avenue btw 6th Ave. & 7th Ave.) a few Sunday’s ago with our friends Amber and Guy.  Now, you know you are in for quite a Sunday-Funday when the first thing out of the waiter’s mouth is “Are you drinkers?” Our reply: “Why, yes we are.” And the fun began. First big plus of the brunch- Maracas offers a 90-minute all-you-can drink brunch for just an added $5 to your brunch entrée (not the extra $20 most places in the area charge). Second plus- the all-you-can drink options includes frozen margaritas (even strawberry if you are so inclined). We’re not aware of any other all-you-can-drink margarita brunches in the city.  If you know of any others let us know in the comments! I hate trekking to an all-you-can drink brunch and learning that the only thing they are serving are watered down mimosas made with sugary processed orange juice.  I would MUCH rather take a sugary, strong, refreshing frozen marg any day, especially on a beautiful Sunday while sitting on the Maracas sunny patio.

We happened to notice some of the Yelp reviews on the Maracas brunch complain about inattentive service and drinks served in small, plastic cups.  The key is to arrive early and avoid the hungover brunch masses that begin to fill the place up around 2-2:30pm.  We all met for brunch right about 12:30pm and got a nice table on the sunny patio (at that time we had the table pick of our choice). 90 minutes and 5 margaritas in, the patio and restaurant were both at full capacity, and people were lining up out front for tables.  As for the plastic cups, our frozen margs were served in nice glassware with colorful plastic animals hanging off the rim.  Our server informed us that they only switch over to plastic cups when it gets so busy that they run out of glassware (not hard to imagine with a packed $5 AYCD brunch crowd).

Now we were mainly there for the unlimited frozen margs and we did not have high expectations for the food, which takes us to plus #3 – the food was very good.  I ordered the Tostaco Salad that comes with your choice of chicken or beef.  I decided to order mine without meat and they were nice enough to include a substantial portion of tasty grilled veggies instead of the chicken or beef.  I was very impressed by the flavor and the portion size.  Guy, Amber, and Andy were also satisfied with their meals.  Here’s a look at our 4 brunch entrees:
