Gotham Bar & Grill — Launching a new series of regional wine dinners called Mondays Uncorked on January 18th. On Mondays throughout 2010, Gotham will highlight different famous wine producing regions across the globe, focusing on a particular country each month. Chef Alfred Portale and Chef de Cuisine Jason Hall will create a $75 four-course prix fixe menu incorporating each region’s traditional flavors, ingredients and dishes. On these weekly BYO evenings, guests are encouraged to bring in their own wines from each featured region. The idea being that these wines will naturally pair best with the cuisine. Late Night Truffle Hunting on the Upper East Side

The words “truffles” and “deal” are rarely uttered in the same sentence. But we got word last week that Upper East Italian resto Sandro’s (306 E. 81st St) is offering 20% off the entire check (including alcohol) 10pm-11:30pm Monday through Saturday. Coinciding with this 20% off special, Sandro’s has just received its first truffles of the season, both black truffles from Umbria and white truffles from Alba. During normal hours, you can get homemade tagliolini pasta with black truffles for $45, with white truffles for $80 (prices subject to market fluctuation). So for you late-night truffle hunters out there, this new late-night special means you can get pasta w/ black truffles for $36 and w/ white truffles for $64 between 10-11:30pm. Jill and I aren’t strangers to late night (drunken) truffle hunting. Our most recent episode was last November when we had several drinks after work in the East Village and thought it would be a good idea to go to Babbo for their White Truffle Tasting Menu w/ wine pairings. Waking up to realize I dropped about half a month’s rent on a meal was not fun. I think we’ll head to Sandro’s next time for our late-night, inebriated truffle fix. Sandro’s has another special, too, for you early birds. At the beginning of this year Sandro’s launched the Dow Jones Pasta Index special and therein began a trend of tying deals to the stock market. Until the Dow hits 11,000, all pastas are priced the same as the Dow Jones closing for that day on Mon-Fri b/t 4:30pm-6:30pm. So, yesterday all pastas would have been $9.89. Just think, back in March they would have been around $6.50.

We knew you could find great values in the East Village, but this is insane. We just read that parties of 4 or more at Mr. C’s Italian Trattoria (102 Ave. C @ 7th St.) get a bottle of their Montepulciano for just a penny! This Yelp’er stumbled upon the deal the other day and gave it a shot. The verdict: good pastas, good portions and good prices.

Bar Blanc Bistro Introduces Moules Frites Mondays

Per Eater’s Dealfeed, we learned this morning that Bar Blanc Bistro has launched a new Monday night special. For $18, you get a bowl of mussels, fries and a draft beer. There are 4 different types of mussels to choose from, including Classic (white wine, shallots, garlic butter, herbs), Smoked Sausage (roasted red onions, beer), Coconut Curry (cilantro, chili) and Tomato (olives, garlic, anchovy). In other Bar Blanc Bistro news, it looks like they have added a complimentary cocktail to the Sunday Brunch. Now the $16 prix fixe comes with an entree, coffee or tea and a brunch cocktail. Nice!

I know it may seem like nothing’s free anymore these days. Heck, we even have to pay to check a friggin’ bag on an airplane. Thankfully there are some bars and restaurants around the city that are still offering some quality snacks for free to their boozing patrons. Free food can range from something simple like peanuts or chips and salsa to a full-on buffet of fried goodness, or even something a bit more fancy like truffled popcorn. And while most places only give out the free goods during happy hour, some places give it out all day long and on weekends, too. We know we didn’t catch all the places (though we got close to 70) so please leave any others in the comments. Let’s start this free eating tour in the East Village shall we:

EAST VILLAGE

Belgian Room (East Village): The Belgian Room will give you a free order of Pommes Frites if you purchase a beer or a drink on Monday or Thursday nights. Also 2-4-1 Belgian draft beers or glass of wine or drinks from 4 – 8pm daily.

Burp Castle (East Village): Burp Castle offers free Pomme Frites to its patrons every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. The Frites show up typically between 5-6:30, and are available until they are gone. 41 E. 7th St.

Cooper 35 (East Village): Buy a drink and get free edamame or chips and salsa on weekdays. 35 Cooper Sq. at 3rd Ave.

Counter (East Village): Keep drinking the organic cocktails at the bar and they’ll serve you some free apps, like corn beignets and chickpea fries. Mon-Thurs from 5-11pm and Sundays. 105 1st Ave b/t 6th and 7th St.

Croxley Ales (East Village): The wings here are damn tasty and they’re complimentary at the bar on Fridays b/t 5-7pm. Not to worry though, they’re only 10 cents on Wednesday nights and 20 cents on Saturdays and Sundays. 28 Ave B b/t E. 2nd and 3rd St.

Desnuda (East Village): Truffled popcorn offered at all times at this tiny ceviche bar where the chef prepares seafood dishes right behind the bar. Standings (East Village): Gotta love the free pizza offered every Friday night starting at 8pm at this E. Village beer bar on one of the best beer blocks in the city. Oh yeah, and from Sept-June they have a free bagel bar on Sunday afternoons. 43 E. 7th St.

VILLAGE & WEST VILLAGE

Anfora (West Village): Greenmarket Mondays — Between 5 and 7pm they serve free snacks based on what is fresh from the market. 34 8th Avenue (212-518-2722)

Blind Tiger Ale House (West Village): On Wednesdays at 6pm, this craft beer bar offers an assortment of cheeses (two pounds’ worth) from Murray’s Cheese and free baguettes from Tom Cat Bakery. 281 Bleecker St at Jones St (212-462-4682).

Brasserie first opened in the Seagram Building in 1959 and in honor of its 50th Anniversary, the restaurant will be running some pretty insane specials. It all kicks off Thursday, September 17th with A (Free) Taste of Brasserie – A FREE 3-course lunch that’s open to all who reserve a seat between 11:30 am 2:30 pm. The Palm Introduces “Prime Bites” Happy Hour

Just got word that The Palm is introducing a new weekday bar menu called “Prime Bites” at all 4 of its NYC locations on Monday (it’s already launched at the Tribeca location). The “Prime Time” Happy Hour goes from 5-7pm and then again from 9 til close. There are some great food deals to be had here. For just $3.50, you can choose from Kobe Beef Sliders, Filet Mignon Capri Sandwiches, Chicken Strips, Crab Cakes, Veal Parmigiana Sliders, Calamari and a Prime Cheese Steak. Oysters are $1 and Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail just $2. Right now there are no drink specials, but that may change. Regardless, this sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Oh yeah, and their $89.95 Lobster for 2 deal has been extended through September 30th. But not sure how good of a deal that is after reading this NYPost story.
