A Couple of Flatiron Happy Hours Just Got Happier

We’ve been hearing mixed things about Sagaponack Bar & Grill in Flatiron (4 W 22nd St). Our friends over at Immaculate Infatuation, whose palates we’ve come to trust and respect, did not have great things to say in their review. While Marc Shepherd at New York Food Journal, whose reviews also tend to be spot-on, recently wrote in a review that “Sagaponack is a solid little gem: nothing revelatory, but a welcome addition to the neighborhood.” One thing we can all agree on is that they have a damn good extended happy hour. Through Labor Day, Sagaponack is offering an all-night happy hour Monday through Saturday with $4 draft beers, $5 glasses of wine and $6 well drinks. We hear they’ll also be doing some deals on oysters on the half shell. Speaking of oysters, BLT Fish (21 W 17th St) has launched a brand new Oyster Happy Hour starting today. From 5-7 p.m., Mon-Fri, you can get $1 oysters & clams at the bar, $5 drafts of Shack Ale & $6 Shark Bite cocktails w/ champagne, passion fruit puree and cassis(normally $12).

Deal Alert: 1834 Bar & Burger Offering Monday Night Unlimited Sliders Deal

Just saw this deal pop-up on Twitter from 1834 Bar & Burger (62 Pearl St; @1834NYC). On Monday nights after 5 pm, they’re offering all-you-can-eat sliders for $13.95. If sliders are your thing, there’s also the all-you-can-eat and drink deal at Jerry’s Cafe (90 Chambers St) every Thursday and Friday from 5 to 7pm, where they serve up unlimited Angus-beef sliders and cans of PBR for $20 (2 hour time limit). Also, there’s the happy hour deal at BLT Burger (470 6th Ave; @BLTBurgerNY) where they’re offering $2 sliders and $3 drafts from 4-7 pm Mon-Fri.

UPDATE: All-You-Can-Drink Brooklyn Lager Now Offered at Marc Forgione’s Tuesday Suckling Pig Happy Hour

Every Tuesday from 6-9pm, chef Marc Forgione has been setting up a suckling pig station in the bar area of his namesake restaurant and allowing guests to build as many sliders as they can eat for $16. As part of this “Suckling Pig Happy Hour” guests have also enjoyed two-for-one beers to complement the grub. We heard from our friend Scott this may be coming and we just spoke with the restaurant who confirmed that they will now have kegs of Brooklyn Lager set up in the bar and will offer all-you-can-drink drafts for just $13. The city’s most intruguing happy hour just took it to the next level!

Beacon Introduces All-Day Happy Hour

We already love Beacon (25 W. 56th St.) for its solid, underrated burger and its all-you-can-drink Sunday brunch. Now, they’ve just launched an all-day happy hour at their bar. You get your choice of 2 house cocktails, 2 pints of beer or 2 glasses of wine + a Wood Oven Pizza or a Burger for just $19.95. Next time I’m looking for a boozy work-week lunch, I know excactly where I’m heading.

Snow Day Drinking Specials

There’s nothing better than holing up in a bar and sharing in the snow day camarederie with others over a few cocktails or pints. Restaurants and bars are putting out word of great “snow day” specials through email and twitter. Here are some of the best snowy day drink deals we’ve come across so far:

Bar Pleiades (20 E. 76th St. @ The Surrey Hotel) — “Snow Day” Cocktails tonight from 5:30-8:30 pm with Mixologists Cameron Bogue & Ryan Magarian, who will be preparing 5 varieties of cocktails with Aviation Gin. To accompany your cocktails, Café Boulud Chef Gavin Kaysen is honoring the “snow day” with complimentary arancini - his famed delicious crisp risotto balls – for parties of four guests or more.

L’asso (192 Mott St @ Kenmare) — Any tap beer and a shot of michters bourbon or rye $5 until 8pm tonight.

The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St) — While so many events have been canceled for this evening, here’s an awesome craft beer event that’s still happening. Paste Magazine has come up here to NYC from Atlanta to celebrate their ‘25 Best Breweries of the Decade’ list. 16 of the 25 breweries will be featured, including Ommegang, Allagash, Lagunitas, Jolly Pumpkin, Wayerbacher, North Coast Brewing and more. From 6:30-9:30 PM, they’ll be pouring $4 drafts plus there will be complimentary grilled meats and giveaways.

Boqueria (53 W. 19th St & 171 Spring St.) — Free glass of blood orange sangria with your lunch or dinner today. If four people in your party, you get a free pitcher!

David Burke Restaurants (Townhouse, Fishtail, Burke at Bloomingdale’s) — David Burke and Veuve Clicquot have teamed up to offer $15 glasses of bubbly along with specials meant to pair perfectly with snow-laden days. At David Burke Townhouse that means sea scallops Benedict with chorizo oil and lobster foam ($15), at Fishtail you get coddled oysters with lemon butter and American sturgeon caviar ($18), and at David Burke at Bloomingdale’s crab truffles with pineapple relish and chipotle vinaigrette is on hand for $12.95.

Hop Devil Grill (129 St. Marks Pl) — $10 64 oz pitchers of sangria all night!

Overlook (225 E. 44th St) — 2 for 1 drinks from 2-6pm, then $5 Vodka drinks & $5 Yuengling & Sam Adams from 6–close.

Best Happy Hour Deals in the E Village: Ten Degrees Bar, Hop Devil Grill, Terroir, Destination Bar & Drop-Off Service

We’ve gone out in search of the best happy hours in the East Village. It’s a tough job, I know, but someone’s liver has to do it. Here are our favorites:

Ten Degrees Bar (121 St. Marks Place) offers a top-shelf two-4-One-You-Call-It (per person) happy hour everyday seven days a week until 8 pm. You want a grey goose and soda? Your next one is free. Bottle of wine? Have the second one for free. Hennessey XO, Patron, Single Malt- no limitations!! They also have half off on any bottle of wine every Monday, ALL NIGHT, to enjoy to a live brazilian band.

Hop Devil Grill (129 St. Marks Place) offers all of its 24 Craft Draft Beers 2 for 1 from 4 to 8 PM. Also some great daily specials offered — Mondays is 1/2 off all apps, “Taco Tuesdays” means unlimited $1 tacos, Wednesdays is $10 for a huge 64oz pitcher of potent brandy-infused sangria, Thursdays is ladies night with $2 frozen or un-frozen margs for the ladies and $1 tostadas for all.

Terroir (E. 12th b/t 1st Ave & Ave A) takes its happy hour seriously and literally. Note that it runs only from 5-6. But it made the cut because they offer several wines that are typically $8-$18 by the glass for just $6. Damn good deal for a happy hour. Unfortunately nobody really gets out of work in time to take advantage of it, except that is for all the models, writers, industry people and unemployed hipsters who live and “work” in the East Village.

Destination Bar (211 Avenue A) has a great happy hour that’s worth checking out. All drinks are 1/2 price from 4pm until 8pm every day. And yes, that includes Jello shots.

Drop-Off Service (Ave. A at 13th) offers all drinks, top shelf included, half-price everyday from 3-8pm. First time we went, we didn’t realize it was happy hour until we ordered a double Maker’s and ginger ale and a Sapphire and tonic and it was only $12. They also have great beers on tap, like Stone Arrogant Bastard. They don’t have a kitchen but they do have meat pies and sausage rolls from Tuck Shop.

UPDATE: The Palm’s “Prime Time” Happy Hour Specials

When we first told you about The Palm’s new “Prime Time” weekday bar menu we heard from some disappointed readers that it wasn’t offered at certain of the NYC locations. We looked into this and now the “Prime Bites” specials are available at all Palm Restaurants in NYC except for the 2 locations on 2nd Avenue. The “Prime Bites” Happy Hour goes from 5-7pm and then again from 9 til close. There are some great food deals to be had here. For just $3.50, you can choose from Kobe Beef Sliders, Filet Mignon Capri Sandwiches, Chicken Strips, Crab Cakes, Veal Parmigiana Sliders, Calamari and a Prime Cheese Steak. Oysters are $1 and Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail just $2. Right now there are no drink specials, but that may change. Regardless, this sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

Beer + Bun for $5 at Xie Xie

Here’s one of the better deals around the city going on right now. Everday from 3-7pm, $5 gets you a beer and a bun at Xie Xie (645 9th Ave b/t 45th & 46th), Angelo Sosa’s Asian-inspired sandwich shop, which recently opened in Hell’s Kitchen and will be expanding with a St. Marks Pl location soon. Xie Xie (pronounced “shay shay”) is fresh off its win for 2009 Restaurant Concept Award from StarChefs.com. For your bun, choose from Sweet Glazed Pork, Vietnamese BBQ Beef or Shredded Braised Chicken. These buns are typically $8.50-$9 for an order of 3: so, you’re basically getting a cold bottle of 33 Export Lager (Vietnamese beer) for about $2. People seem to be really diggin’ these buns. Check out the most recent reviews on MenuPages. Even celeb chef Alain Ducasse has thrown in a resounding endorsement. Disclaimer: Angela Sosa worked with Ducasse a few years back to create a special seasonal menu at Ducasse’s Paris restaurant, Spoon Food & Wine.

$29 Happy Hour Tastings for 2 at Bar Boulud

We hit up the final MADCrush pop-up wine bar of the year last night at the Museum of Arts and Design. Chef Damian Sansonetti was on hand and serving up some snacks from Bar Boulud. We tried the Gougères with Housemade Pastrami and the Berkshire Pork Rinds. We also found out about a new $29 ‘Tastings for 2′ Happy Hour deal Bar Boulud is offering daily from 5-6pm and again after 10pm. At the long bar or tasting table you can get a cheese, charcuterie or dessert tasting + 2 glasses of wine for $29. Sounds like a great idea if you find yourself a bit peckish after a Lincoln Center event. (1900 Broadway at 64th St; 212-595-0303).
