Much More Than Just Java at Birch Coffee

Published by Andy at 11:28 am under Food, Wine & Beer News

Can’t say we’ve ever been to Birch Coffee, the neighborhood coffee shop located at the bohemian Gershwin Hotel (7 E. 27th St).  But we’re definitely intrigued.  First, they sent word that they would be representing NYC at the 8th Annual National Grilled Cheese Invitational in California on April 24th.  Over 300 people are expected to compete at the event in L.A. that celebrates April as National Grilled Cheese month.  Birch Coffee claims to have created a grilled cheese “monster.”  They’ve been experimenting with all kinds of ingredients, including duck, organically grown tomatoes, avocados, and 15 different types of cheese from Murray’s.  They’ll be featuring some special grilled cheese creations on their menu throughout April, in addition to their three regular grilled cheese sandwiches.  Then, we got word that Birch also boasts a boozy brunch with a menu that changes weekly.  There’s a different type of quiche and omelette every weekend as well as their staple classic waffles, cinnamon spiced waffles and peanut butter and apple waffles.  Best part, however, are the 2 for 1 mimosas.  And if that’s not enough to set Birch Coffee apart from your everyday coffee shop, they have a nice list of wines and beers to boot.  And if it’s coffee you’re really after, they say their cold-brewed iced coffee is “more addicting than crack.”  I think a little field trip to Birch Coffee is definitely in order.
