Affordable White Truffle Dishes & Dinners are Popping Up Left & Right

Looks like Sapori d’Ischia, which offers a $50 3-course White Truffle Tasting Menu on Tuesdays, isn’t the only affordable white truffle show in town. On December 15th, Zagat Presents “A Truffled Affair” at The Oak Room where a 4-course truffle-inspired menu created by executive chef Eric Hara plus cocktail and wine pairings will only set you back $75 (tax + gratuity not included; to reserve, call 212-758-7777 and mention “Zagat Presents”). Tonight it’s Trufflepalooza at Locanda Verde (379 Greenwich Street; 212-925-3797) where Andrew Carmellini will be serving up white truffles for the people with a 3-course white truffle dinner for just $49.99! Though reservations are all gone at this point, a call to the restaurant confirms that Locanda Verde keeps about 1/4 of the restaurant open for walk-ins. Over at By The Ounce (120 W. Broadway; Mon-Sat, 6pm-12am), the new wine bar in the white corner room at Bouley Market, executive chef Shea Gallante has prepared a special white truffle menu with white truffle shaved over pasta, eggs, etc. for just $25 per dish. Otto Enoteca and Sandro’s after the jump…

According to its Facebook page, OTTO Enoteca Pizzeria (1 5th Ave; 212-995-9559) is offering three white truffle dishes, an antipasto (Braised Cardoons with Parmigiano Reggiano topped with a sunny-side up egg ; $30), a pizza (Joe’s Dairy Mozzarella and Buffala Mozzarella with Ribbons of House Cured Guanciale, topped with a Fried Egg; $65) and a pasta (Taccozettte with La Tur, Parmagiano Reggiano and Black Pepper; $55), ”each topped abundantly with fragrant and delicious white truffles from Alba.” Served all day, these dishes are on the menu as long as their truffle dealer keeps ‘em coming.

We’re also big fans of the Bird’s Nest pizza (raschera, tomme de savoie, parmesan, shaved asparagus, quail eggs, shaved black truffle) at Co. Pizza (230 9th Ave at 24th St). NB: it’s not always on the menu.

Meanwhile, Upper East Italian resto Sandro’s (306 E. 81st St) is offering 20% off the entire check (including alcohol) 10pm-11:30pm Monday through Saturday. Coinciding with this 20% off special, Sandro’s has just received its first truffles of the season, both black truffles from Umbria and white truffles from Alba. During normal hours, you can get homemade tagliolini pasta with black truffles for $45, with white truffles for $80 (prices subject to market fluctuation). So for you late-night truffle hunters out there, this new late-night special means you can get pasta w/ black truffles for $36 and w/ white truffles for $64 between 10-11:30pm.

Shave ‘em if you got ‘em!
