4 Chefs Set to Compete in Latke Cook-Off on Monday, Dec. 7th

Published by Andy at 2:47 pm under Food & Drink Events

North meets South; old meets new; cultures square off in an old-fashioned taste competition; and nothing less than the ancient potato Latke, the star of the Chanukah Festival, is in the spotlight. 4 chefs – each representing a different culinary tradition – will showcase their spin on the Latke for the audience. The Cook-Off will take place on Monday, December 7, 2009 (6:30 – 8:30 PM) at the Great Performances Kitchen (304 Hudson Street; ticket info here). A Southern interpretation will be prepared by Chef Tim Sullivan of Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. Latino Latkes will be presented by Chef Victoria Palando of the newly opened El Café at El Museo del Barrio. Chef Jack Kiggins of the Grand Ballroom at the Plaza Hotel will create a classic version while Chef Marc Spooner – who recently masterminded 10,000 Thanksgiving meals in one day – will take a modern American approach. All I can say is they’re lucky my Grandmother Evelyn wasn’t invited to participate in this competition. The four latkes will be judged by guests drawn from the hospitality and special events industry. Mulled wine, spiced cider and light snacks will accompany the tasting. Details…
