It’s Beaujolais Nouveau Time!
It’s time for Francophiles to get ready to celebrate. It’s the third Thursday of November and that means the new crop of Beaujolais Nouveau is dropping today. All across town, festivities are being planned to coincide with this year’s release. There’s no better way to start the party than with some free samples of the goods. For that you can head to Sherry-Lehmann, where Beaujolais importer Franck Duboeuf, of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf, will be on hand from 4-6pm to talk about the new vintage. Free tastings will be poured all day from 9am-6pm. They are offering a special cuvee from Georges and Franck Duboeuf made exclusively for Sherry-Lehmann (505 Park Avenue; 212-838-7500). In Brooklyn? We’ve got you covered. Head to Heights Chateau (123 Atlantic Ave; 718-330-0963) for free Beaujolais tastings from 5:30-8:30pm. After you’ve had a taste, do like the French and celebrate the new harvest at the French Institute’s annual Beaujolais Nouveau Fete. This event will feature wine tasting stations, assorted pâtés and breads and a raffle (6:30 PM; tickets are $55 for non-members; 22 E. 60th St.; purchase tickets here). Then, it’s Beaujolais Dinner time…
Bistro Ten 18 (1018 Amsterdam Avenue; 212-662-7600) is celebrating the annual release of Beaujolais Nouveau with a three-course prix fixe menu ($32 per person), which will be available today through Wednesday, November 25. The Beaujolais Nouveau is $8.50 per glass and $28 per bottle. Meanwhile, NoLita’s Le Jardin Bistro invites diners to drink as much Beaujolais Nouveau as they’d like for only $12 dollars (with a minimum purchase of an entree). Along with free-flowing wine, there will be a $45 three-course prix fixe menu that includes options like terrine of foie gras, duck breast with pink peppercorn sauce and tarte tatin (25 Cleveland Pl; 212-343-9599). Also, French standbys like TriBeCa’s Capsouto Frères will be pouring the new bottles all night long.

Ahh I love New York. Also, France Today has a nice little history/background of Beaujolais Nouveau – http://www.francetoday.com/articles/2009/11/18/the_fine_wines_of_beaujolais.html
