Austrian Wine Month Continues Through November 22nd

Austrian Wine Month is in full effect here in NYC. Fourteen restaurants across Manhattan and Brooklyn, including Blaue Gans, Café Katja, Café Sabarsky, Delmonico’s, Klee Brasserie, L’Ecole, Seasonal Restaurant & Weinbar, Wallsé and more, are offering special prix fixe menus, wine flights and pairings, as well as some rare Austrian wines by the glass. Café Katja (79 Orchard St) offers a mixed flight: a trio of Austrian white, red, and dessert wine for $18, and if you give them a day’s notice, Café Katja will also set up a wine tasting with meat, cheese, and Schnapps, for $42 (minimum four people). Klee Brasserie (200 9th ave) is offering a special three-course menu featuring the rare Austrian Mangalitsa Pork, with an optional pairing of three Austrian wines ($93 with wine; $58 without). More info on Austrian wine month here, and you can take a quiz and enter here to win a nine-day trip to Austria’s wine country. Austrian Wine Dinner Series at Café Sabarsky, 11/20

On November 20, Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner, owner and executive chef of New York City restaurants Wallsé, Café Sabarsky, Blaue Gans, and wine bar The Upholstery Store, as well as the chef at The Beer Garden at The Standard Hotel, and Wine Producer Bertold Salomonare hosting an evening of food, wine and art at Café Sabarsky and the Neue Galerie.

Famed Austrian winemaker Bertold Salomon owns a long-established family winery in the Kremstal region near Vienna. Interested in producing red wines in addition to the white wines Austria is known for, Salomon opened a winery in Finniss River, Australia where the Salomon Estate vineyard now stands.  He was the first to import Australian wines into Austria in the mid-1980s.
