Wine of the Week: Mollydooker 2008 Two Left Feet
As we’ve previously mentioned, we scored some bottles of Mollydooker 2008 Two Left Feet at a great price a couple of weeks ago. We love Mollydooker wines and we love the husband and wife team behind Mollydooker, Sarah and Sparky, who we met at a wine dinner a while back. Mollydooker is an Aussie term for left-handed person (which both Sarah and Sparky are). We thought their fun attitude towards wine and their innovative and adventurous approach (check out the “Mollydooker Shake”) set them apart from the rest. Their “Marquis Fruit Weight” (“MFW”) rating system and whole philosophy is right up our alley. So, the 2008 Two Left Feet (“named for what happens when Sparky dances with Sarah”) took the prize for Wined & Dined’s wine of the week. Their 2007 vintage was awarded 93 points by The Wine Advocate.
Wined & Dined’s Quick Tasting Notes
Wine: Mollydooker Two Left Feet
Vintage: 2008
Varietal(s): 68% Shiraz, 17% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Australia
Alcohol: 16% (HUGE)
Price: $25.00/bottle, $300/case (as found on Mollydooker USA website)
Color/Appearance: Deep ruby, some serious lasting legs
Nose/Aroma: Big cherry up front, some spice, fig, raspberry and blackberry preserves
Mouth/Flavors: Another huge fruit bomb (they give it a MFW of 65-70%), very, very cherry, sweet plum, raspberry and blackberry, silky texture, some coco, definite layering of flavors, subtle tannins.
Conclusion: It’s delicious! It’s a bit more balanced with the Merlot and Cab Sauv than the crazily fruity The Boxer and Blue Eyed Boy (both 100% Shiraz, and Blue Eyed Boy with a MFW of 75-80%). To sum up, you’ve got to go out there and buy yourself some Mollydooker wines if you love jammy, big, fruit forward reds. We’re talking Smuckers goodness (in the very best way possible) with more complexity that you would imagine from our description. Cheers!

Review is right on target…I had this wine while out for dinner a couple weeks ago, and had to go pick up a couple bottles (and I’ll probably end up buying a few more before it’s all said and done.) This has very quickly become my new favorite wine!!
