The Guardian Lists the 50 Best Things to Eat in the World & Where to Find Them
Thanks to our friend Jen for passing along info about this intriguing new Top 50 list published by the U.K.’s Guardian. While I tend to be skeptical of such “best of” lists, this one of the “50 Best Things to Eat in the World & Where to Eat Them” is a great travel resource regardless of whether you agree or not with the selections. The daunting task was undertaken by Killian Fox, who can hardly be considered an international food writer — his previous three articles were album reviews, including Jay-Z’s new one. But this list wasn’t compiled based on Killian’s opinions. He sought out advice from some A-List chefs and food experts, including David Chang, Eric Ripert, Josh Ozersky, Jason Atherton (Gordon Ramsey’s Maze in London), and several London-centric chefs and restaurateurs. NYC dominated the American spots that made the list: Little Owl for Best Place to Eat Hamburgers with a quote from meathead Ozersky, Katz’s Deli for Best Place to Eat Pastrami on Rye, Gramercy Tavern for Best Place to Eat Pork Belly, and Babbo for Best Place to Eat Ravioli (for its oxtail ravioli). It also looks like some of the categories of food were created to fit a specific place. Take Best Place to Eat California Cuisine, for example, which went to Chez Panisse (Alice Waters is credited with originating California cuisine). I have to agree with the Frank Pepe Pizzeria in New Haven as the Best Place to Eat Pizza. Jill and I tried the famed white clam pie a few months back and it’s outrageous.
