Learn the Fine Art of Drunk Sushi-Making at SUSHISAMBA 7
In college, during class was probably the only time you weren’t drinking. Now, SUSHISAMBA 7 (87 Seventh Avenue South; 212-691-7885) is letting you learn and drink at the same time with the re-launch of its popular SUSHI+SAKE 101 class. Starting next Monday, September 21st, and running these Monday’s (10/26, 11/30, 12/21), this hands-on, boozy tutorial will put you on the path to becoming a “master sushi chef” while sipping sake with a five-course meal of sashimi, tempura, edamame and sushi rolls that you actually prepare. For the first hour, the SUSHISAMBA sake sommelier will guide you through the exotic world of sake tasting, introducing the traditions and history of sake while uncovering misconceptions about this increasingly popular Japanese beverage. From aromatic to aged to sparkling, you will learn there is much more to sake than just beating a gong and bombing it with a beer. Once the drinking tutorial’s over, the sushi part of the program begins, conducted by the executive sushi chef who will teach you the simplified approach to cutting raw fish, how to identify what is “sushi-grade,” and even roll some sushi of your choice. Hmm, drinking and rolling — it does sound a bit like college. Here’s how you enroll…
