Gourmet Magazine Kicks It Up a Notch With its Gourmet Institute ’09 Weekend (Oct. 23-25)

Published by Andy at 9:58 am under Food & Drink Events

October is quite the month for food enthusiasts in NYC. Of course there’s Food Network’s star-studded New York City Wine & Food Festival (Oct. 8-11). But do not overlook Gourmet magazine’s seventh annual “Gourmet Institute” from October 23-25. This weekend event just seems to get better and better every year. Gourmet has assembled an incredible roster of culinary talent to lead walking tours, wine and spirits tastings, seminars, talks, demos and more, including Ruth Reichl, Mario Batali, Daniel Boulud, David Bouley, April Bloomfield, Floyd Cardoz, Scott Conant, Gina DePalma, Sara Moulton, Charlie Palmer, Marcus Samuelsson, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Florent Molleret, Dan Barber, Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert, just to name a few. The event is also much more accessible this year than year’s past – whereas you used to have to buy an all-weekend passport ticket that cost close to $1,400, this year tickets to individual classes/seminars are available “a la carte,” so you can pick and choose the events you want to attend. While many of the Wine & Food Festival events have already sold out (23 of them already), there are still tickets to most all of the Gourmet Institute events. In fact, only the Walking Tour with Ruth Reichl has sold out so far. For a look at all the weekend’s events, including seminars, chef demonstrations, tastings, cooking classes, book signings, interactive walking tours, special menus at top local restaurants, The Gourmet Marketplace and more, click here. The not-to-be-missed events include Daniel Boulud’s World Tour of Sausage Making, Jean-Georges’ Autumn in the Kitchen, David Bouley’s Cuisine Integration, Stories with Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert, a panel talk led by Mario Batali and Ruth Reichl, a seminar with Dan Barber, a knife skills demonstration by Morimoto, Street Foods of India by Floyd Cardoz, an English cuisine demo by April Bloomfield, an East Village restaurant tour of Back Forty, The Mermaid Inn and Hearth, led by the owners and chefs, and much more.
